DJT and the "Never Socialist" Declaration

During Donald Trump's 2019 State of the Union address, he made the following statement:

"Here in the United States, we are alarmed by new calls to adopt socialism in our country. America was founded on liberty and independence, not government coercion, domination, and control. We are born free and we will stay free. Tonight, we renew our resolve that America will never be a socialist country."

I voted for Mr. Trump twice, both times with reservations. The second time I voted for him, I had no reservation greater than the one that resulted from the quote above. Was President Trump's declaration of the United States as a socialist-free (or socialist-resistant) nation the result of someone who was completely ignorant of history; or someone who was incapable of contrasting and comparing the present-day government to the government of the founding fathers; or someone who was merely a wishful thinker?

I believe it was a combination of "all of the above." I think Mr. Trump is someone who, at the time of his SOTU speech (and currently) did not know much of the true history of America, including the devolution of the American Government from a Democratic Republic to a Socialist Democracy long before he uttered his defiant anti-Socialist promise.

Only six short years after Mr. Trump's declaration that "America will never be a Socialist country," American's elected Socialists or Communists as the Mayors of New York City, Seattle and Minneapolis. And it is fair to say that mayors of many other cities, as well as elected government officials at all levels in other cities and states, as well as in the U.S. Congress, already were and are de facto Socialists or Communists.

Many people in the United States---including many in government, and in government bureaucracies---had an interest in Marxism and Communism during the very early days of the implementation of those political systems. But it was not until the tortuously long rule of Franklin Delano Roosevelt (FDR) that Marxism and Communism began to infiltrate our government in a meaningful way. You can read here an AI summary of Amity Shlae's "The Forgotten Man," and how fascinated and beguiled many of Roosevelt's cabinet members, advisors and bureau chiefs were with Communism. Social Security, an unmitigated disaster, was one result. So were, sooner or later, Medicare, Medicaid, and Obamacare; the Department of Education, and the Headstart program; the government-endowed PBS; government-sanctioned infantile homicide; and a slew of other policies and government takeovers in areas that were once considered domain of the people, and not of their rulers.

Franklin Delano Roosevelt deserves the "honor" of recognition as our first Socialist President. And since FDR, every President, including President Trump, has either presided over new Socialist programs or kept in place existing Socialist programs.

So, Mr. Trump, your resolve that America will never be a Socialist country was a day late and a dollar short. The cow has left the barn, the cat's out of the bag, and Socialism is barreling down the road. Can you stop it? Maybe. Do you have the will and ability to stop it and reverse it? I'm not so sure.
