In Our Own Eyes: Our Putrid National Ethos

Image
If there is one Bible verse that describes the American culture today, it is this: "In those days there was no king in Israel; everyone did what was right in his own eyes." — Judges 21:25 Our national ethos—our system of ethics—has devolved from that established by the Founding Fathers in principle and codified explicitly and implicitly in the Constitution. In the beginning, our ethics were based on the common assumption that God knows best and has defined ethical behavior. Unfortunately, before the ink dried on the Constitution, there were some (most?) who did not quite see it that way and started in with that whole Adamic thing of "Yes, but..." In 2022 our more-or-less originally God-based system of ethics has devolved into our present "in their own eyes" system of ethics. This new system has given us abortion, LGBTQ, same-sex marriage, rampant divorce, daycare, corrupt government, socialized medicine, Wokeness and a host of other evils; their is no limi...

IN WARM PRAISE OF OIL AND GAS PEOPLE...

Image
WHEN I AWAKENED THIS MORNING IT WAS 26 DEGREES, WITH A "FEELS LIKE" OF 15°. THE HEAT AND LIGHTS WERE ON AT MY HOUSE. I praised God, and one of my prayers of thanksgiving was for Oil & Gas people. I worked in that industry for more than 25 of my 48 working years, and I know whereof I speak. I can assure you that O & G people of all nationalities, cultures, colors, sexual orientations, and religious beliefs were not focused this last week on personal grievances or identity politics. I can virtually guarantee you that there were no Diversity, Equity and Inclusion meetings last week; the focus was on keeping oil and gas flowing so that people did not freeze their be-hinds off or die during this current cold streak. Nobody had a Great Resignation mentality; O&G people went to work in the frigid cold, freezing rain and blowing snow. Field workers and plant operators braved bone-chilling winds. Office workers either made their way to the office or put in long hours at ...

Create a Trans-Olympics for Transgender Athletes

Image
Courtesy of deseret.com Today I watched yet another of the many wrongfully-treated young female athletes explain how and why she was cheated out of her high school athletic career by transgender Woke-ism. Today also, the NCAA announced its new, wholly-unacceptable Woke policy on transgender athletes , which not only violates Titles IX and VII, it is an affront to God, mankind, womanhood, nature and logic.  So today I came up with a better idea to put an end to the inequity, controversy and bitterness surrounding the transgender athlete debate. Not that anyone but female athletes, their families and their attorneys gives a whit about fairness; still, I have a modest and fair proposal:  Let's  create the "Trans-Olympics" for transgender athletes (and leagues, if there are enough trans people around to make up a sufficient number of teams). Special Olympics.org Already we have created avenues for athletic participation where people with intellectual and physical challenges c...

The Government School Curriculum and Our Children's Future: Of God or Of the Devil?

Image
In light of today's battle for what is, and what will be, taught in the government schools, this question and answer is critical to the future of our children. Like all other aspects of life, the government school curriculum is either of God, or of the Devil. There is no middle ground.

The Insanity of Electronic Surveillance of Home Workers

Image
Some background first.  I am retired (from the "regular" workforce) after 38 years in HR management. While my retirement occurred prior to the start of the Covid-19 pandemic, I had some experience with remote working pre-Covid, and vicarious experience through my wife's remote working during Covid. Allow me to say, then, that I don't think the surveillance issue has so much to do with where the employee does his/her work. I believe it has mostly to do with how the employee's supervisor or manager does his/her work. As I read about and reflect on the burgeoning employer practice of WFH surveillance of employees I am disturbed but not surprised by the knee-jerk panic of some managers who are afraid they suddenly are going to be taken advantage of by people working from home. I suspect those same managers already were taken advantage of by the same employees who formerly worked in cubicles within the manager's line-of-sight.  Surveillance Did Not Work Before...

The Myth (Big Lie) of "Companies That Don't Pay Taxes"

Image
Companies create the jobs that pay the wages that get taxed by the government … Labor Force Participation Rates Directly Correlate to Taxes Collected The more jobs a company creates, the more income taxes the government rakes in. Conversely, the more the government taxes companies and raises the minimum wage, the fewer jobs companies create. Ergo, companies create jobs that create tax payments; governments destroy tax revenue when they excessively tax companies, because excessive taxes destroy jobs. The federal Government's double-dip Government taxes the income of those who work in the jobs the companies create, then they turn around and tax the companies on top of the income taxes paid by the companys' workers.  Example: General Motors:  Find more statistics at Statista In 2020, the average rate of pay for a General Motors employee was $27.00 per hour, with an average annual bonus of $8,000. All in, the average annual pay was $62,540 dollars. Multiply that by 155,000 worke...
